Full Details

Vista Las Palmas, known as the “Beverly Hills” of Palm Springs, is an icon of midcentury modern architecture set against the foothills of Mount San Jacinto. The modernist design of these homes creates a casual lifestyle which takes advantage of the crisp, dry desert climate and soaring mountain views.

The neighborhood has always been a constellation of Hollywood stars including Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, Marylin Monroe, Peter Lawford, Kim Novak and Joan Collins.  The main attraction is its architecture:  dramatic homes designed by architects William Krisel and Charles E. Du Bois, including prime examples of butterfly roofs and “Swiss Miss” A-frames.

Developer George Alexander had already made his mark on the desert when he began building Vista Las Palmas in 1958 but it remains his crowning achievement: The epitome of gracious, indoor-outdoor living in midcentury Southern California.

This tour takes you inside some of the neighborhood’s most beautiful houses including the former homes of Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee, Dolly Sinatra, and Maurice McDonald of McDonald’s restaurant fame.  In addition, experts on the Alexander Company and its architects, William Krisel and Charles Du Bois, will be on hand to explain what made this developer and its designs so famous and unique.

Special to the tour this year is a Du Bois-designed “Swiss Miss” home recently renovated by Lindsey and Eric Bennett of the popular HGTV show “Desert Flippers.”

Funds raised will support improvements to the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood as well as worthwhile Coachella Valley charities.
