The Salkin House - A ‘lost’ John Lautner house is found! This intimate 1,100 sf house designed midcentury architect John Lautner had mysteriously slipped off the radar for 65 years. Designed and built originally for Jules Salkin in 1948, the two bedroom house was owned by one family for decades. It was only recently discovered and restored by Trina Turk, noted architectural preservationist and fashion and housewares designer.
Join Trina as she shares her insights on this project hidden in the hills of Los Angeles. Architect Barbara Bestor will join her and expand on the challenging restoration to bring this long lost Lautner back to life. The lecture will include “before and after” photographs which will highlight the full magnitude of the property’s magnificent transformation.
Hosted by noted fine artist Danny Heller, the ticket price will include a tour of a Lautner Living Unit, The Lautner grounds, The Park and The Ranch House which comprise the compound, followed by a champagne toast. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the John Lautner Foundation, striving to preserve the Lautner archive; educate the public on the architecture of Lautner; and provide support for preservation, protection and maintenance of all Lautner structures.
