Past Meets Present: Shake, Rattle and Roll (An Elvis Tribute) Step back in time and experience one of Palm Springs’ hidden treasures – the legendary American Legion Post 519. Designed in 1948 by John Porter Clark Albert Frey, this important building is now a Class 1 Historic structure. Guests will enjoy a complimentary signature drink upon arrival as they hear historian Lee Wilson talk briefly about the Legion’s robust past. This will be followed by a short presentation by Tom McLean about the Legion’s newly refurbished broadcast booth and radio station that at one time showcased popular national radio broadcasts with performers like Frank Sinatra, Al Jolson (with David Niven and Cary Grant), Jack Benny, Bing Crosby, and Groucho Marx.
Guests will be able to tour the Legion building and view its history displays. And then, make way for Elvis! During “Shake, Rattle, and Roll” (a cocktail show that runs 5 - 7 p.m.), top Elvis impersonator Scot Bruce will entertain the audience with his rotating thighs, swiveling pelvis, droopy bedroom eyes and spot-on vocals that will remind the audience of the King, who owned a home in Palm Springs. Bruce’s voice is so uncannily like Elvis that the audience will think they are in “Blue Hawaii.”
Proceeds from this one-of-a-kind event will be used to purchase new chairs and bar stools for the Legion’s historic bar.
