For the first time during Modernism Week, the incomparable Nancy Sinatra will host a fun and engaging fundraising event to help restore the historic Plaza Theatre. Scheduled to appear are five musical artists including actor, singer, and godfather of Sinatra's daughters James Darren, jazz vocalist and friend of the Sinatra family Steve Tyrell, Wrecking Crew member and session musician Don Randi, and Nancy's daughters, A.J. Lambert and Amanda Erlinger. Along with these special guests, there will be a screening of Nancy’s selections from her television specials along with a conversation and Q&A with Nancy and her guests. As the daughter of Frank Sinatra, perhaps one of the most famous of the many Hollywood celebrities who helped put Palm Springs on the international stage, Nancy has many fond memories of growing up in Palm Springs and is a huge supporter of preserving the city’s past and its historic architecture.
The historic Plaza Theatre in Downtown Palm Springs is one of the most iconic buildings in Palm Springs. Originally built in 1936, the structure was used for film premieres and screenings and was the venue for nationally broadcast radio theatre programs and other performances by Bing Crosby, Amos 'n' Andy, Jack Benny, Bob Hope, and Frank Sinatra, among many others. Over the decades, the building has deteriorated, so the City of Palm Springs recently initiated a capital campaign to restore the Class 1 Historic Structure back to its former glory. Proceeds from this event benefit the Save The Plaza Theatre restoration fund. More information is available at SaveThePlazaTheatrePS.com.
