Full Details

Richard Beard Architects and The Wiseman Group recently restored and re-imagined Joseph Esherick’s midcentury masterpiece, the McIntyre House. Located in a suburb just south of San Francisco, the home, originally completed in 1961, is a landmark design that garnered widespread recognition at the time of its completion, and was noted for advancing architecture “born of the special needs for today’s families—the compartmental house, a totally new apportionment of space.”

The design team will discuss how the relevance of this structure continues today for a new generation. While clearly capitalizing on the advances, concepts and innovation of the design as envisioned in the 1960s, Richard Beard and Paul Wiseman articulate important aspects of the architecture and design, as they have artfully re-imagined them, to provide a resonant composition that enhances the spirit of the original work in reviving this landmark for the 21st century.

Richard Beard, a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects, is known for his accomplished and innovative work with significant historic structures as well as new work. In addition to private residences, his firm’s work includes multifamily residential buildings, as well as hospitality and commercial projects located throughout the United States, and in Japan, Italy and Mexico.

Paul Wiseman and The Wiseman Group, an award winning interior design firm whose domestic and international work reflects an attention to local history, existing architectural features, site requirements and the client's vision, is proud to be celebrating 40 years in business. Their work has been widely published and featured in the firm’s monograph, Inner Spaces, Paul Wiseman and The Wiseman Group (Gibbs Smith, publishers). Both firms have collaborated extensively.
