A privileged witness to the glamorous spirit of the 1950s and 60s, Milton H. Greene photographed the greatest artists, actors, and personalities of the twentieth century, including Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, Ava Gardner, Steve McQueen, Lauren Bacall, and Catherine Deneuve, amongst countless others. Renowned for his fashion photographs, Greene perfectly captured the fantasy, elegance, and beauty of his models, for which he secured assignments from major national publications and prestigious advertising clients.
His most noted work is with Marilyn Monroe, who he first met in 1953 on assignment for Look Magazine. In 1956, they formed Marilyn Monroe Productions together, during which time he photographed her in 50 different sittings producing over 3,000 images, some of which have never been published. Greene passed in 1985, thinking his life's work was succumbing to the ravages of time. His eldest son, Joshua, began a journey to meticulously restore his father's legacy.
A photographer himself, Joshua spent years researching ways to restore his father's photographs as well as cataloging and promoting Milton's vast body of work all over the world. As a result, Joshua established "The Archives LLC," a company committed to the restoration and preservation of photography. After spending nearly two decades restoring his father's archive of over 300,000 images, Joshua Greene and his company are widely regarded as one of the leaders in photographic restoration and have been at the forefront of the digital imaging and large-format printing revolution. archiveimages.com
