Best selling author William Knoedelseder will give a lecture with highlighted images from his new book, Fins, Harley Earl, the rise of General Motors and the Glory Days of Detroit. The New York Times bestselling author turns to the American auto industry chronicling its birth and rise to greatness through the remarkable life of Harley Earl, the eccentric visionary who revolutionized the way cars were made, marketed and even imagined. The author will be signing copies of Fins, available for sale after the lecture and a selection of some of Harley Earl's most iconic autos will be on display outside of the venue. Some of author William Knoedelseder 's other best selling books include Stiffed: A True Story of MCA, the music business and the Mafia and High Times in Stand-Up Comedy's Golden Era which was the basis for the Showtime series of the same name.
Proceeds benefit the Palm Springs Modern Committee, a non-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation and preservation of Desert Modern architecture and design. We accomplish this through education, advocacy for threatened buildings, promotion of heritage tourism, and the celebration of successes in preservation and adaptive reuse.
