Midcentury modern architecture and Palm Springs are virtually synonymous! This is due in large part to the teaming of the Alexander Construction Company and the talented architectural team of Daniel Palmer and William Krisel. Begun in 1956, Twin Palms Estates was the first subdivision built by the Alexanders in Palm Springs. As the architects considered landscaping an integral part of the architectural design, this tour features the desert landscaping and the many plant species that complement the innovative architecture.
The Twin Palms Estates, a jewel among our desert neighborhoods, truly demonstrates the creative genius of Palmer and Krisel. Using the same footprint, they designed an exciting new look, which had never been seen before. Each house appears to be custom built because of alternating facades, changing site orientations, and using a variety of rooflines, including the dramatic butterfly style. Celebrities such as Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, actor Charlie Farrell, and author Ray Bradbury chose to live in this very unique modern neighborhood.
