Audaciously christened, THE GEM OF THE DESERT by its developers, Seven Lakes Country Club has played host or home to a long list of Hollywood celebrities and two U.S. Presidents. Situated behind the Parker Hotel, for the seventh year in a row, this gated enclave presents a rare opportunity to tour a curated collection of six magnificent midcentury homes designed in 1966 in the international style by Richard A. Harrison (formerly of Wexler/Harrison), who was honored in 2016 with his own Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Fame. Atomic Ranch, California Home, Luxe, and Palm Springs Life have spotlighted a number of the 341 homes that exemplify the period's hallmark design elements: horizontal, low-slung single-level buildings with orthogonal lines; varying 3-dimensional patterned concrete block walls, that, when illuminated by the sun, cast ever-changing geometric tapestries throughout the day; 10-foot ceilings; walls of glass with sliding doors; atrium courtyards; and flat roofs that appear to float above the clerestory windows. Homes are sited on verdant green fairways and meandering streets - many of which offer the proverbial jaw dropping views. Acclaimed golf course designer/landscape architect, Ted Robinson, nicknamed King of Waterscapes, laid out the original master plan and golf course. Trivia buffs: In 1968, President Eisenhower, at age 77, famously shot his only "hole-in-one" on the 13th fairway. Funds from this tour will support the William Cody Club House.
