Celebrate Modernism poolside with a social experience and home tour as you join your hosts from Acme House Company, presenting the world-famous Aqualillies performing their signature blend of dance, synchronized swimming and breathtaking water ballet set to a soundtrack of 1950s remixes at one of Acme's luxury vacation rental homes.
Part of the show will pay tribute to America’s Mermaid Esther Williams - the midcentury pin-up beauty who helped popularize synchronized swimming through a string of hugely successful aquatic Technicolor musicals including Thrill of a Romance, Neptune’s Daughter and Million Dollar Mermaid. People around the world flocked to movie theaters to see graceful Miss Williams work her magic on screen, making her an international superstar.
Esther Williams - a part of Palm Springs History
At the height of her movie career, Esther Williams lived in the home built for Rudolph Valentino in the Mesa neighborhood of south Palm Springs. By 1955, Esther and her husband became residents of Thunderbird Country Club. In addition to her movie career, Ms. Williams was often photographed poolside in Palm Springs - promoting her successful line of bathing suits and advertising her line of backyard swimming pools.
