After her highly successful performance at Modernism Week 2018, acclaimed Canadian jazz cellist Kye Marshall returns to MW 2019 to perform an afternoon of jazz at the Modernist Loretta Young Estate in the historic Deepwell neighborhood. An eclectic musician, Ms. Marshall has composed and performed in nearly every musical genre, including classical, opera, theatre, dance, radio drama, and jazz. The latest of her six CDs, Pencil Blues, was nominated for Best Jazz CD of the year by Toronto Independent Music Awards (TIMA). Her compositions have been premiered by organizations as prominent as “I Solisti Veniti” of Venice, Italy, one of the world’s leading string orchestras. Her first opera, Pomegranate, will be performed at Toronto's Buddies in Bad Times Theatre on June 5-7, 2019 . Ms. Marshall will be accompanied by Dr. Peter Curtis on acoustic guitar. This year’s performance will take place at the fabulous Loretta Young Estate in the historic Deepwell neighborhood. This infrequently seen home is a not-to-be-missed midcentury property.
The concert will be followed by a catered reception with hosted wine, champagne and hors d’oeuvres, and will include a meet and greet with the artists. The reception will end about 6 p.m. to segue right into your dinner plans. Ms. Marshall performs an annual benefit concert in the Coachella Valley, and we're thrilled that this year’s concert will benefit the Coachella Valley Symphony and the Buddy Rogers Youth Symphony.
